The Allen & Heath GX4816 is a high-capacity 96kHz audio expander designed to provide substantial remote I/O expansion for Allen & Heath Qu, SQ, Avantis, dLive, and AHM systems. Featuring 48 microphone inputs and 16 line outputs, the GX4816 is ideal for installations and live production environments requiring large channel counts and maximum flexibility.
The GX4816 is equipped with 48 premium Allen & Heath microphone preamps, delivering up to 60dB of gain for microphones and other audio sources. Each input includes an individual phantom power status LED, making it easy to identify active channels and simplify system management.
A built-in 20dB pad on every input allows the unit to accommodate higher-level line sources, providing the flexibility required for a wide range of professional audio applications.
Sixteen balanced XLR outputs provide reliable signal distribution for loudspeaker systems, amplifiers, recording equipment, broadcast systems, monitor mixes, and audio distribution networks. Relay-protected outputs help safeguard connected equipment and ensure system reliability.
Designed for applications requiring extensive remote connectivity, the GX4816 significantly expands the available I/O of compatible Allen & Heath systems. Whether supporting large live productions, houses of worship, educational facilities, conference centers, theaters, or broadcast environments, the GX4816 provides the capacity needed to manage large numbers of audio sources and destinations.
Two built-in DX ports allow additional remote expansion beyond the onboard I/O. Users can connect up to four compatible DX expanders to further increase system capacity and extend audio connectivity to multiple locations throughout a venue.
For Avantis and SQ systems, the second DX port can also support integration with the Allen & Heath ME Personal Monitoring System, providing performers with flexible personal monitor control options.
The GX4816 can be installed up to 100 meters away from the connected mixer or processor, enabling audio engineers and system designers to position remote I/O exactly where it is needed. This flexibility reduces analogue cable runs, simplifies installations, and supports efficient stage and facility layouts.
Connectivity is provided through a secure GX connection featuring locking EtherCon ports for dependable operation in demanding professional environments.
System setup is fast and straightforward thanks to true plug-and-play operation. No manual configuration is required, allowing the GX4816 to be quickly connected and recognized by compatible Allen & Heath systems.
Firmware updates are handled automatically by the host mixer or processor, helping maintain compatibility while minimizing maintenance requirements.
Built for both touring and installed audio applications, the GX4816 features integrated rack ears and occupies a standard 5U rack space. The compact rackmount format provides convenient deployment within equipment racks, stage racks, control rooms, and centralized AV infrastructure.
The GX4816 integrates seamlessly with Allen & Heath Qu, SQ, Avantis, dLive, and AHM platforms. For dLive systems, connectivity is achieved using a gigaACE card installed within the dLive MixRack or Surface, enabling high-capacity audio transport across the network.
This broad compatibility allows organizations to standardize on a single remote I/O platform across a wide range of applications and system architectures.
Combining 48 microphone preamps, 16 line outputs, flexible expansion capabilities, and reliable 96kHz audio performance, the Allen & Heath GX4816 delivers a powerful and scalable remote I/O solution for professional live sound, installed audio, education, hospitality, broadcast, performing arts, and houses of worship environments.
